On October 4, Stella McCartney debuted the Frayme Mylo, “the world’s first bag made from mycelium-based leather alternative to walk a fashion week runway”, in collaboration with the biofabrication company Bolt Threads.

"In fashion, mushrooms are the future." This is how the mycologist Paul Stamets introduced Stella McCartney Spring-Summer 2022 show, last Monday, during Paris Fashion Week. A show inspired by fungi in which the British designer, dedicated to create fashion in a way more sustainable and respectful of sentient beings, human and non-human, is closely interested in for, "their incredible potential for saving our planet", she said in a press release.
Fungi appear everywhere in this collection, on dresses, bustiers and pants, embellished with Toile de Jouy-style motifs depicting hand-drawn mushrooms and fringes reminiscent of mycelium filaments, the roots of fungi.
Also present in the collection are fractal art prints and pendants inspired by mushrooms.
Star of the show: a new version of the Frayme bag, the Frayme Mylo, “the world’s first bag made from mycelium-based leather alternative to walk a fashion week runway”, explains in its press release the biofabrication company Bolt Threads that developed this innovative renewable and vegan mushroom material. The Frayme Mylo will be sold in a limited edition of 100 pieces.
This Frayme Mylo model is part of an already existing line of vegan Frayme bags (see here), inspired by Stella McCartney's iconic Falabella bag, new models of which were also unveiled during SS22 show.

Stella McCartney had already designed three prototypes in Mylo: a Falabella bag in 2018, as well as a bustier and pants, in 2021 (more info in this Boudoir Numérique article).
