We have been dreaming of holographic fashion shows since Kate Moss floating in the air for Alexander McQueen's Fall/Winter 2006 collection (more info in this Boudoir Numérique article). Maisie Wilen dit it for its Fall 2022 collection, which silhouettes have been unveiled on 28 holographic seven feet high (approximatly 2 meters 10) models, during New York Fashion Week.
On the weekend of February 12-13, visitors of the fashion event were able to discover the fruit of the brand designer Maisie Schloss’ collaboration with Yahoo. It is indeed the American web services company that took care of immortalizing, by volumetric capture, the IRL models, thanks to 106 6k cameras to create this immersive experience with 3D characters.
The virtual creatures are inspired by Monster High dolls from the toy brand Mattel, Draculaura, Frankie Stein, Lagoona Blue and Clawdeen Wolf. The artistic crew used both physical prosthetics and body painting but also to digital special effects to accentuate the fantastic character of the 3D creatures.
The experience is also accessible online, in a dedicated space of Yahoo website (see here). There, by scanning a QR code with your phone, it is possible to play with models in augmented reality, in order to visually integrate them into your environment, before access the brand website to buy the items of the collection that, unlike the NFTs florishing everywhere in fashion, are not digital but real.
