No less than six celebrities chose to wear creations by the tech-savvy designer Iris van Herpen on September 13 to walk the red carpet at the evening gala of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

“So let me get this straight, you designed almost everybody’s dress on the MET”, “Congratulations on being the true star of this year's MET Gala”, “I’m starting to think the theme for this year’s MET was Iris van Herpen”, “WOW! And another one… stunning!”, “5 & counting”… Two days after the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York, the followers of Iris van Herpen's Instagram account still couldn't believe it: the Dutch designer had, in all, no less than six outfits on the red carpet of this 2021 edition.
After the American actresses Tessa Thompson (more info here), Hailee Steinfeld (more info here) and Gabrielle Union (more info here), not to mention the Canadian singer Grimes (more info here), Valentina Sampaio and Winnie Harlow, too, trusted the tech-savvy fashion prodigy to shine in the spotlight. The Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio set her sights on the Rootscapes dress from Iris van Herpen's Spring-Summer 2021 Roots of Rebirth haute couture collection.
The Rootscapes dress is one of 21 silhouettes in the Iris van Herpen collection, inspired by roots and spores.
The SS21 Roots of Rebirth haute couture collection, unveiled on January 25,2021, as part of Paris Fashion Week, explores, as the designer's press release indicates, "a symbiosis of high technology and the artisanal craftsmanship of couture, through a collection that references the intricacy of fungi and the entanglement of life that breathes beneath our feet”. Discover the collection below.
As for Winnie Harlow, she chose the Aerology jumpsuit dress, described by the haute couture house, on its Instagram account, as a piece "hand-casted from pearlescent liquid silicone inside a laser-cut to interlace the bodice in vivid meteorological labyrinths, whirling voluminously into a draped transparent black organza mantle."
Watch Winnie Harlow posing for the photographers in her jumpsuit on the MET Gala red carpet.
The Aerology jumpsuit is part of Iris van Herpen's latest haute couture collection, Earthrise.
Below, discover Iris van Herpen’s Fall/Winter 2021-2022 Earthrise collection, presented in the form of a video on July 5, 2021, as part of Paris Fashion Week.
Note also that to attend the MET Gala after-party, hosted by the American singer Justin Bieber, Winnie Harlow was still wearing an Iris van Herpen dress, from the SS21 Roots of Rebirth collection.
