Some fabric, a Britney Spears Halloween costume and a plastic head… just like Sarah, recreate at home your favorite (bling tech) silhouette from the Met Gala red carpets, for the Met Gala Chalenge, organized by Vogue and Billy Porter, after the postponement of the famous fashion event, due to the Coronavirus crisis. A fun way, why not, to wait until deconfinement…

“I had way too much fun (…) using some fabric I had stored away and my sister Britney Spears costume from Halloween (…) to replicate all the beautiful bling on Jared Leto outfit made by Gucci with one of my hairdressing doll heads I practice hair styling on. What a fun challenge!” Like the others participants to the Met Gala Challenge, Sarah Mariah used all the means available at home to join the contest launched on April 23 by Vogue magazine (read here) and the American actor Billy Porter. Their mission ? Recreate the most iconic looks in the history of this fashionable event which should have taken place on May 4, in New York.
Postponed because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the evening gala of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan museum of art (MET) will take place at home and on Instagram, where Billy Porter, Mister extravaganza in person, invited internet users to publish, until May 3, their wildest silhouettes, using the hashtag #MetGalaChallenge (see here). The most creative will be published on Vogue website and on its Instagram account (see here), the next day. Watch Billy Porter's announcement below.
The Met Gala is a moment awaited by fashion tech enthusiasts because of all it’s bling-tech-futuristic fashion surprises. This was the case of the famous Gucci outfit of the 2019 edition (read here), embellished with a reproduction of the head of the American actor Jared Leto, from the Fall-Winter 2018-2019 ready-to-wear collection of the Italian brand, whose models walked the Milanese catwalk in February 2018, equipped with a copy of their decapitated noggin, as an ultimate fashion accessory. No wonder then that another contestant, Jeff, also chose this outfit for his Met Gala Challenge.
The American singer Katy Perry likes light-up outfits (more info here), for instance, also in 2019, her Moschino silhouette representing a chandelier. This outfit is already reproduced by Natasha Vinnikova, a stylist in confinement, below.
