"In terms of vegan leather, Desserto and Piñatex are today the most innovative materials to be able to make our eco-responsible bags", explained Yasmine Soltani at Le Boudoir Numérique, on the stand of VB Vegan Bags Paris, at VeggieWorld, at the beginning of April. Like the cactus-based brand Bihotz (read here) and the pineapple-based one, Oyan (read there), also met at the fair dedicated to veganism, the designer, founder in 2019 of this PETA-Approved vegan leather goods brand, indeed understands it well : innovative alternatives to animal leather, made from waste from the food industry or from sustainable crops, are a promising asset for the development of vegan fashion.
Not only alter-leather, such as Desserto, made from the mature leaves of Nopal cactus grown in Mexico or Piñatex, made from pineapple fibers, waste from its production in the Philippines, do not exploit animals but their plant-based origin makes it possible to avoid as far as possible the use of petroleum-based materials, which are harmful to the environment.
In order to meet her clientele's growing demand for durable items, Yasmine Soltani has therefore adopted these two pineapple and cactus alter-leathers in new bags from her New Wave V collection. For those who speak French, the designer presents her two models, to be released next June, in the video below.
