Member of the Mylo consortium of the biofabrication company Bolt Threads with Kering, Lululemon and Stella McCartney, the German sportswear brand Adidas had announced, last December, being working with the new material Mylo, made from mycelium, the mushrooms roots (more info in this Boudoir Numérique article). Today, Adidas and Bolt Threads unveiled their project : the Stan Smith Mylo, which “outer upper, perforated 3 stripes, heel tab overlay, and premium branding are all made with Mylo”, says Adidas press release. “A limited-edition drop of Stan Smith Mylo will be available in the near future”, adds Bolt Threads communique.
Mycelium is a complex network of subterranean fibers which ensures the growth of the mushrooms, that are its fruits.
The alter-leather made from mycelium Mylo was launched in 2018 by the American company Bolt Threads, founded in 2009, with the aim of creating, through biofabrication, textiles and materials derived from microorganisms and no longer petroleum or animals, in a sustainable and cruelty free perspective.
This first Mylo shoe follows clothing already made in this material, this time by Stella McCartney. The English designer has indeed used this material in a bustier and pants, presented in Vogue magazine, on March 17 (more info in this Boudoir Numérique article).
