The French plant-based brand Alénore is using the innovative material AppleSkin for its collection of vegan and more sustainable leather goods.

"The AppleSkin is a resistant material that does not fear scratches and does not deteriorate under the action of the sun or the rain." In the booth of her plant-based leather goods brand, Anne-Laure Sas-Mayaux explains to VeggieWorld visitors, the qualities of apple alter-leather. It is, in fact, on this vegan and more sustainable material that the designer has set her sights for the bags and other leather goods of her brand Alénore, founded in 2019 with Noémie Flamant.

Indeed, young ethical brands, that are aiming for making fashion in a way respectful of the environment and sentient beings, can now rely on innovative alternatives to animal leather, while reducing to the maximum the use of petroleum-based materials. These are, for example, the Desserto alter-leather, from the sustainable culture of Nopal cactus used by the brand Bihotz (read here) or the Piñatex alter-leather, made from pineapple fibers, waste from its production in the Philippines, used by Oyan (read there). And so, it’s also the case of Alénore’s AppleSkin produced in Italy, from apple waste of the food industry. For those who speak french, watch the video below, in which Anne-Laure Sas-Mayaux presents her Pâquerette bag in AppleSkin and tells more about the reasons that motivated her to choose this material marketed by the company Frumat.
