“Balenciaga, it's just hotter than hot! Oh, my gosh, I cannot wait to wear Balenciaga in the metaverse.” The fashionista Eva Chen, Instagram's queen of fashion, was very enthusiastic while she discussed, with Mark Zuckerberg, via video conference, the fashion brands that will soon be available in the Meta Avatars Store. Indeed, the co-founder of the Facebook social network and CEO of the Meta group, Mark Zuckerberg, announced on Monday the creation of this virtual store of skins, in which avatars can dress in Balenciaga, Prada and Thom Browne.
“I am thrilled about this three brands being the first iconic brands to join our avatars store”, said the VP Fashion Partnerships, who presented the different looks to come (Balenciaga sweatshirt, Prada bucket hat, Thom Browne suits, etc.) on an avatar of Mark Zuckerberg. “Am I cool enough to wear this?”, the latter smiled, discovering a racing suit from Balenciaga.
On October 28, Mark Zuckerberg announced that his Facebook group was changing its name and would now be called Meta, in reference to the Metaverse that he decided to develop in the future. He promised in the presentation video of this virtual universe: “You’re going to have a wardrobe of virtual clothes for different occasions, designed by different creators and from different apps and experiences.”
The Meta Avatars Store, which will be launched in the coming weeks on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, is one more step in the development of virtual fashion, which the web giants intend to seize.
