A Jared Leto lookalike and the real Iris van Herpen at 2022 MET Gala

Discover the celebrities who trusted the dresses of the tech-savvy designer Iris van Herpen to shine on the red carpet of the Costume Institute evening gala, On Monday, in New York.

No MET Gala without Iris van Herpen. While in 2021, no less than six celebrities sported silhouettes by the Dutch designer, on the red carpet of the Costume Institute's annual benefit (read here), the cast of this new 2022 edition did not have to fear, on Monday, from the comparison with that of the previous year. Among the fans of the tech-savvy designer were Winnie Harlow, Teyana Taylor, Dove Cameron and Fredrik Robertsson, a designer unknown to the general public whom photographers took for the actor Jared Leto. Icing on the cake, Iris van Herpen was present, in the flesh, in New York, not only backstage but also on the Metropolitan Museum of Art red carpet. Without further ado, let’s discover all the outfits and their related stars.
* Dove Cameron, American actress
According the post of the brand Iris van Herpen, published on its Instagram account on May 2, the dress worn by Dove Cameron is called Spiral Nebula. The dress made to measure is the result of the work of ten people for 600 hours. “Layers of white fabric were bonded with recycled mylar”, a technical material used for the manufacture of magnetic recording tapes, for example, “to then be laser cut and stitched onto a template with the artwork integrated into the pattern of the dress”.
* Winnie Harlow, Canadian model
Winnie Harlow wears the Transmotion dress by Iris van Herpen, unveiled on July 6, 2020, during Paris fashion week haute couture Fall-Winter 2020-2021 (read here). The Canadian model's kinetic crown is from Iris van Herpen's Spring-Summer 2021 haute couture collection, unveiled on January 25, 2021, again as part of Paris Fashion Week. The headpiece was made in collaboration with Seattle-based artist Casey Curran (read here). Unlike the crown worn on the catwalk, the MET Gala one was not in motion.
Iris van Herpen was immortalized backstage with Winnie Harlow (see photo in the Insta post below). On the red carpet, Iris van Herpen chose to wear her Harmonia dress, from her Spring-Summer 2019 Shift Souls haute couture collection, presented in Paris on January 21, 2019.
* Teyana Taylor, American singer
Teyana Taylor wears the Mythosphere dress from Iris van Herpen’s Earthrise Fall-Winter 2021-2022 collection, presented on July 5, 2021, as part of Paris haute couture fashion week.
* Fredrik Robertsson, Swedish designer and Jared Leto lookalike
The Swedish designer Fredrik Robertsson stood out on the red carpet thanks to his Iris van Herpen’s extravagant jumpsuit, the fruit of the work of twelve people, for 750 hours, but also for his resemblance to the American actor Jared Leto, with which the photographers confused him.
According the Instagram post of the brand Iris van Herpen, “the sustainable jumpsuit is made from upcycled fabric that was first digitally printed and then heat-bonded to recycled mylar. The panels were then laser cut into springing feathers that are carefully balanced and hand-stitched onto beige tulle.”
