"Space smells." It is in these terms that the American astronaut Tony Antonelli remembers what he felt, when he opened the hatch of the space shuttle, to let his colleagues return from a routine mission in space : “I was completely blown away (…) The smell was strong and unique, nothing like I ever smell on earth before. Some kind of metallic mixture of other things I just didn’t know how to describe." Listen to him in the video below.

Intrigued by this strange smell, Steve Pearce, chemist and founder of the company Omega Ingredients, developing flavors for the food and beverage Industries, decided to recreate it, first in 2008, at NASA's request to help the National Aeronautics and Space Administration better prepare its astronauts for extra-planetary missions, then as part of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter this summer. The fragrance called Eau de Space "can be worn if you like the smell", described by the astronauts as "seared steak, raspberries and rum", laugh the kickstarter campaign FAQ (see here).

To complete this space trip, don’t forget to cover yourself, because it is quite cold out there. To do this, the technical blanket brand Rumpl launched, on June 14, a NASA line to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 13, the 3rd mission of the Apollo space program dedicated to landing men on the Moon. Nothing like a silver poncho to shine fiercely in space.
