Le Boudoir Numérique told you about it, last January (more info in this article), the creation of Mylo products would occur this year at Stella McCartney. As the brand of the English designer is part of the Mylo consortium of the biofabrication startup Bolt Threads, also bringing together the sports brand Adidas, the French luxury group Kering and the Canadian brand Lululemon, they all have exclusive use of this innovative material Mylo, created in 2018, before it will be made available to others brands and designers. On March 17, two Stella McCartney’s outfits have been unveiled in the American Vogue, a bustier and pants in this vegan Mylo material, an alternative to animal leather and petro-sourced materials, biofabricated by Bolt Threads, from mycelium, the fungus roots (images below : © Stella McCartney).

“Stella debuted the first-ever Mylo garments in March 2021, which were worn by actress and environmentalist Paris Jackson in a Vogue exclusive feature”, explained the Bolt Threads’ press release sent yesterday : “The bustier top and utilitarian trousers were handcrafted from panels of Mylo laid on recycled nylon scuba at the brand’s atelier in London.”

Already, in 2018, Stella McCartney designed in Mylo a prototype of her iconic Falabella bag, intended not to be marketed but to be presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, during the Fashioned from Nature exhibition, from April 28, 2018 until January 27, 2019.

“This is the future of fashion,” Stella McCartney said to Vogue, adding : “If we can get this right, then we can really make a huge impact on the planet.” Note, moreover, another recent initiative in biofabrication with mycelium, that of the French house Hermès, which signed a Victoria bag with Fine Mycelium alter-leather from MycoWorks (more info in this Boudoir Numérique article).
