“I call him fashion scientist but he’s also a fashion poet to me”. It was in these glowing terms that Silvia Venturini Fendi, artistic director of Fendi's menswear line, spoke, behind the scenes of her Fall-Winter 2020 show, about Kunihiko Morinaga, the tech-savvy founder of the Japanese brand Anrealage, with whom she collaborated for four silhouettes with technical properties of the Italian house.
Kunihiko Morinaga signed the photochromism technology of clothes and accessories cut from technical materials sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, the UV rays emitted by the sun. Under the influence of these rays, the pieces change color from white to the well-known Fendi yellow and reveal patterns (images below : © Fendi).
This is the case, for example, with a white padded jacket, whose Fendi Codes print, incorporating the iconic double F logo, is revealed when exposed to light (images below : © Fendi).

Below, watch the entire Fendi Fall-Winter 2020 show, presented on January 13, 2020, in Milan, with the finale photochromic change, thanks to UV lamps that reproduced indoors, on the catwalk, the effect of the outdoor sun rays.
The items from this Fendi X Anrealage collaboration ar now part of a capsule collection, unveiled on January 7. It is composed of a padded jacket, a sleeveless jacket, a bucket hat, sweatshirt, bag, T-shirt and trousers with photochromic materials that change color, when you go out into the sunlight and return to their original color once you get inside (images below : © Fendi).
Already in 2013, Kunihiko Morinaga was the first ready-to-wear designer to use ultraviolet radiation to change the color of clothes (images below : © Anrealage).
