“Commencing part 2 of the quarantine. Will wearing masks become second nature?" It is in these terms that the fashion designer Clara Daguin introduced last week to the followers of her Instagram account her new fashion tech creation, a light-up mask with LEDs "for these weird pandemic days".
Contacted Friday by Le Boudoir Numérique, Clara Daguin explains : “This light mask is a reaction to what is happening in the world today and a way to stay connected to my practice, because everything is being turned upside down at the moment. The haute couture fashion week of July 2020, for which I was organizing an event, having been canceled, I find myself forced to rethink everything."
The young designer, which artistic approach is based on the alliance between artisanal savoir-faire and technology, through interactive pieces often using embroidery and electronics, continues: "These masks, because they are more of them, are adaptations of techniques that I have already explored in other pieces, a way of getting used to the idea that we will undoubtedly be forced to wear them after the deconfinement and that they will become, for a while, an accessory, an ornament and a canvas on which we can express ourselves." Sampling of materials, tests of luminous embroidery ... Clara Daguin is pursuing her experimentations on these masks which will feed her next collection.
